I've been successfully keeping up with Moda Blockheads block of the week despite some real challenges (see personal below). Here's my work so far:

******* personal info*******
After my delightful time in Tahoe, I decided to take care of some routine health maintenance which included my mammogram. Much to my dismay they called be back, I had a biopsy and was diagnosed with breast cancer in early May. I had lumpectomy surgery and a lymph node biopsy in mid-May. I feel extremely fortunate that my cancer is small and an early stage, however it didn't get me out of chemo. I had my first of 4 treatments last week, and while it certainly isn't a walk in the park, it is manageable.
I hesitated to share this much personal information, but there are two things that I want to share with my quilting sisters. First, if you are not regularly getting your mammos, please start. Do it EVERY year, if possible. Women in their 60s are most at risk. The second thing I want to share is how much being a quilter has helped me brave my frightening new world. Hand stitching, reading your blogs, and prepping new projects have kept me from falling into despair. We are so blessed to have this hobby to help us through the challenging times in our lives.
With gratitude,
Barb
Quilting and sewing is a wonderful passtime and I'm glad it's helped you through some difficult times. Good luck with the rest of your treatment. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLove the courthouse steps quilt. Sorry to hear about your health issues. I'm so glad that it was caught early. Chemo is rough, but I'm thankful and hopeful that you said it was manageable. Praying for a speedy recovery and that God can put his healing hands on you for His glory. Take time for yourself to stay strong.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your prayers. I really believe they have power.
DeleteHi Barb, Good luck with the chemo. I`ve also been lucky in my bad luck - and have been cancer free for 6 years. I'm glad that your quilting and stitching is helping you. It's a great hobby and a wonderful community we have :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are healthy and cancer free. That's my aim!
DeleteThank you, Donna.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, you will definitely be added to my prayer list! Your reminder is timely, as I need to get in for my annual. I recently had a scare for uterine cancer, and thankfully, my results were of the positive nature. I hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteI love your little quilts! They are so fast and, consequently, so satisfying!
You recently commented on my blog, but you are a "no-reply commenter" so I could not respond personally. I have seen some instructions online about fixing the "no-reply" status; if you are interested, just let me know. And, thanks for visiting my blog! ;-)
Hugs to you! So glad that stitching has helped you during this time. I tend to take handwork with me to my annual mammogram. I had a scare last year but this year all looks good.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts and prayers are with you. I have gotten an annual mammogram since my 20s. I wish you a speedy recovery and few if any side effects with the subsequent treatment. Thank you for sharing.
